Amazon launched the Hindi version of its shopping website for mobile and Android, iOS Amazon app. By doing this, they are stepping ahead in the race against Walmart’s Flipkart unit. Amazon now becomes first ecom company India to launch their portal in a local language targeting local audience. Even Flipkart, Snapdeal are yet to extend their app to the local languages.
They believe that this will give access to 10 million more people in India who are very much interested to purchase online with their local language. Flipkart, along with its fashion units Myntra and Jabong, is slightly ahead of Amazon in India’s online retail, according to Forrester estimates.
Amazon also has plans to support more local Indian languages on its shopping app and mobile website and will also extend the service to mobile platforms beyond Android, said Kishore Thota, Amazon India’s head of customer experience and marketing, without giving a timeline.
