Last week I went to visit my brother in Denver. He has two kids, ages 6 and 9. It had been a while since I last saw them, so I decided to come up with some fun games we could play to share quality time. Instead of playing board games, I thought it would be fun to do some music-related activities like singing karaoke, dancing, and painting. So, I did a little bit of research beforehand and found some fun games to play. We ended up having a blast, so I thought I’d share my experience with you.
Radio Stations Kids Love
I love listening to music, so finding some great music to listen to with my nephews was definitely on my list. I knew kids love the Frozen soundtrack, but to be honest, I didn’t know what else they might want to listen to. After doing some digging online, I ended up finding a couple of kid friendly radio stations. I tested out a few with my nephews and they loved, loved, loved Children’s Radio BBC. Another hit was Kidz Bop Radio Online. They play popular songs from a ton of children’s music artists, so keep that in mind if you are looking for fun free kids music.
Fun Activities To Do While Listening to Music
I also thought it would be good to find some songs to sing along to. When I was little, we played a game where each person would sign the same song at the same time but at a different pace, and whoever lasted the longest without getting mixed up would win. While researching to find sing-along songs, I found a list with some fun music-related activities, so I thought I’d share the link.
Best Apps to Have Fun with Kids and Music
Well, let me tell you, we played all kinds of games while listening to music. One of the biggest hits was a mobile game we found on the list called Finish the Lyrics. The goal is to finish singing the lyrics to the song that’s playing, but since we didn’t know them all, we made up our own endings and it was just hilarious. It has lyrics of all types, from pop songs and action songs lyrics to Disney soundtracks, and more. The neat thing about music games is that everyone can enjoy playing them. So, although I had been looking for movement songs for elementary-aged kids and music activities for older kids, we ended up all playing together regardless of the game.
Unleash Your Kid’s Inner Artist with Music
While the games were super fun to play, we probably spent more time drawing and painting than anything else. We would play some of my nephews’ favorite music and simply let our creativity take over. Thankfully, my brother has a kids-proof room where we could go wild with paint without worrying about staining a rug or something. While my older nephew was responding to music through art almost instinctively, the younger one eventually started using the brushes as drum sticks and started making his own improvised solos. So, I guess it turned into a musical instrument crafts and art session!
Conclusion
Who knew there were so many music-related games to play with kids? To be honest, I had a blast too, so I’m really glad that I was able to share time with my nephews at home singing along, painting, dancing, and improvising our own jam session. I have many great memories of my short visit. We bonded doing activities we wouldn’t normally do, and the best part is that they loved every second of it.
