Vesak Day 2017: Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti is an important festival celebrated all over the world by Buddhists in order to the honour the birth of Gautama Buddha. Vesak also spelt as Wesak is celebrated by the Buddhists all around the world. It comes from the name of a month in the Indian Calendar.
The Buddhists religion was started by Siddhartha Gautama who belonged to a Royal family in Nepal. His privileged life was disturbed when he realised that everyone experienced illness, old age and death. Gautama began to wonder about the meaning of life, and he left his home to wander through the country. He wanted to learn the truth about life and death.

“Vesak”, the Day of the Full Moon in the month of May, is the most sacred day to millions of Buddhists around the world. It was on the Day of Vesak two and a half millennia ago, in the year 623 B.C., that the Buddha was born. It was also on the Day of Vesak that the Buddha attained enlightenment, and it was on the Day of Vesak that the Buddha in his eightieth year passed away.
According to holy scriptures of Hindu mythology, Buddha is considered as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and a part of the Holy Trinity of Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva. This is widely prevalent belief in North India but not considered in South India. Bodh Gaya is the place where Gautama Buddha is believed to have obtained Enlightenment, sitting under a tree, which is now known as Bodhi Tree. It is an important site for Buddhists pilgrims which is situated in Bihar, India.
The Big day of Buddhists is Vesak which is celebrated in all over the world by Buddhists. It is declared as a Government holiday in many parts of India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, China, Cambodia and many South Asian countries.
