Nickelodeon Classic Good Burger to Get a Sequel on Paramount+ with Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell

Nickelodeon’s beloved classic “Good Burger” is getting a sequel on Paramount+, with original stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell set to return. After over 25 years since the film’s release, the production of “Good Burger 2” will begin in May 2022, with plans to release the film on Paramount+ in 2023. The announcement was made during the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Friday.

Nostalgic Returns of Kenan and Kel – The Stars of the Original “Good Burger”

The original “Good Burger” was first introduced as a sketch on the Nickelodeon series “All That” in which Kel Mitchell starred as Ed. The TV series proved to be so popular that the movie version was released in 1997. The story of the movie follows a high school student, Dexter Reed (Kenan Thompson), who works at Good Burger to pay back the damages he caused to the driver’s education car. The high school student eventually learned the secrets of the famous recipe, and the two become friends.

The movie was budgeted at $8 million and ended up grossing nearly $24 million in global box office sales. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell have since been collectively synonymous with the Nickelodeon brand, with their hilarious sketches and their ability to make audiences laugh so hard that they spill their milkshakes. Nickelodeon’s “Good Burger” has gone on to achieve cult status, and it’s a true nostalgic return by the Nickelodeon stars to bring Ed and his coworkers back to life 25 years later.

What Can We Expect from the “Good Burger 2” Sequel?

In the sequel, “Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.” This suggests that we can expect many good laughs and some creative problem-solving along the way.

Furthermore, the sequel promises to bring back the same lovable characters, including the bumbling brother and sister duos, Kurt (Jan Schweiterman) and Kaffee (Tia Imani Hanna), who seek to bring down Good Burger, and Monique (Shar Jackson), patient wife of Otis, the fast-food chain’s manager.

The Director and Production Team Behind “Good Burger 2”

Phil Traill is set to direct this nostalgic Nick classic sequel. Traill is best known for directing comedy films like 2019’s “The Great Alaskan Race” and 2010’s “All About Steve.” Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, co-writers of the first movie, and “All That” showrunners, are returning to write the script for the sequel alongside James III. Nickelodeon Studios will produce, with Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin overseeing production for Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action.

A Revival of Nick Classics on Paramount+

“Good Burger 2” is the latest Nickelodeon classic to get a revival on Paramount+. Paramount+ has been reviving Nick classics like the “iCarly” revival series, which has already been renewed for a third season. The streaming service has also brought back an updated version of “Rugrats,” “Blue’s Clues and You!,” and “The Fairly OddParents,” among others.

With all of Nickelodeon’s classics getting reboots of their own, fans are eagerly waiting for the release of “Good Burger 2” on Paramount+ and looking forward to seeing what misadventures and good laughs are in store for the lovable characters.
