Ram Nath Kovind was elected as India's next President

Ram Nath Kovind: Ram Nath Kovind was elected as 14th President of the country. The President election of India was held at August 17, 2017. Ram Nath Kovind and Meera Kumar was nominated for this post. At the end of counting on Thursday, Kovind got 7 lakh votes and Meera Kumar received just 3.6 lakhs votes. After Pranab Mukherjee, Ram Nath Kovind was elected as India’s next President.

Ram Nath Kovind was nominated by the BJP- led NDA and Meera Kumar was nominated by Congress. At the end of the vote counting Ram Nath Kovind won the President election and he is the first BJP leader to be elected for this post. Ram Nath Kovind was a BJP leader who has served as a Rajya Sabha MP and later was appointed the Governor of Bihar, will be the second Dalit President of the country after KR Narayanan. His village memebers from  Paraunkh village in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh are celebrate this victory.

Kovind said “This responsibility being given to me is a message to every person in the country who fulfils his responsibilities with honesty.” at the press meet. All leaders are send their wishes to him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted in his official page as “Congratulations to Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji on being elected the President of India! Best wishes for a fruitful & inspiring tenure,” .

This victory was gave a big strength to BJP government to prove their strength in Parliament. From 4896 candidates – 4120 MLAs and 776 elected MPs were eligible to cast their ballot. The NDA candidates got the votes of 522 MPs of Parliament. Kumar was able to get only 225 MPs to vote for her. In NDA-ruled states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat and Jharkhand, Kovind was able to beat Kumar convincingly. In states like West Bengal (TMC-ruled), Karnataka (Cong-ruled) and Punjab (Cong-ruled), Kumar was able to get more votes than Kovind.

The Vice-President election was held on August 5, Venkaiah Naidu and Gopalkrishna Gandhi are nominated for this post. Stay tuned for more updates.
