Christmas 2017: Every year Christmas falls on December 25 which is celebrated worldwide by Christians. Christmas is the annual holiday celebrated by Christians in all parts of the world to celebrate the nativity of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God, the Messiah sent from Heaven to save the world.

The word Christmas comes from Cristes maesse, an early English phrase that means Mass of Christ. It is believed that Jesus was born to Mary in Bethlehem around two thousand years ago. On the day of Christmas National, state, and local government offices, post offices and banks are closed. Christian stores, businesses, and other organizations may be closed or have reduced opening hours.

How People Celebrate Christmas?

Christmas Day is a festival which fills people heart with joys, happiness, and love.  On this day, people go to church, sing carols, take part in special religious services, exchange gifts, decorate their homes with holly, mistletoe, lights, flowers and Christmas trees and organize family gatherings.

On the Christmas Eve, churches around the world hold evening celebrations. At midnight, most churches hold special candlelight services. Santa Claus is a popular character in the Christmas celebration who brings gifts for the children. And people celebrate Christmas and enjoy the beginning by cake cutting with friends and family and exchange their gifts.

To make Christmas more special, people spend time on Church with family and friends. They may display small electric lamps or small clay oil-burning lamps and decorate their homes with banana or mango leaves. On this day, people wear new clothes and eat a festive meal. Families exchange gifts and presents and also they distribute sweets to the children.

Christmas Celebration In India

Indian people celebrate Christmas in doing following things:

  • Small electric lights and oil burners.
  • Artificial pine trees or branches of native tree and bushes decorated with Christmas themed ornaments.
  • Statues of or actors playing Santa Claus.
  • Nativity scenes with small clay figures.
  • Decorations made of banana or mango leaves.
