Ganesh Chathurthi 2017: Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayakar Chaturthi. It is celebrated as the Birth Anniversary of Lord Ganesh which is celebrated by Hindus in India and all over the world. It is celebrated on the fourth day of Hindu Luni Solar Calendar month Bhadrapada. Ganesh Chathurthi usually falls on August-September.
Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati whom has the 108 different names. He is considered as the God of wealth, prosperity and good fortune. The festival is heavily celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Orissa, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh. In some states, it is officially declared as a Holiday. The festival is celebrated by installing the idols of Lord Ganesha in homes and public places. The Lord Ganesha is also worshiped in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Nepal, and China.
For the Ganesh Chaturthi, there are mainly four rituals that are followed which are Pranapratishhtha, Shhodashopachara, Uttarpuja, and Ganpati Visarjan. Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival usually celebrated for 10 days. On the day Ganesh Chaturthi, the Puja for the idol of Lord Ganesha should be done with the Puja things where the idol is decorated with flowers. Puja is done by saying mantras of Lord Ganesha. The famous foods for the Lord Ganesha are prepared and it is kept for the Puja.

The Date and Time for the Ganesh Chaturthi 2017 begin from August 24 8:27 PM and the Ganesh Chaturthi ends on August 25 8:31 PM. The Madhyahana Puja time for Ganesh Chaturthi 11:25 to 13:55 hrs (IST). This is the ideal time for the Lord Ganesha to come home.
Ganapathi Visarajan is the immersion of Ganesha idols in the water or river. The time and date for the Ganesh Visarajan are from 12:14 on September 4 and the tithi ends on September 5, 12:41. Gauri Visarjan is on August 31st.
